Czechia Long-Term Visa and Residence for Business

The route is mainly intended for third-country nationals who will operate a Czech business, work as a registered sole trader, manage a company or carry out another authorized entrepreneurial activity. EU, EEA and Swiss citizens generally use free-movement rules instead. The applicant must prove a lawful and credible business purpose, commonly through a Czech trade licence, Commercial Register extract or comparable official registration.

Czechia does not impose a universal minimum business investment or personal net-worth requirement for this category. Applicants must, however, show sufficient funds for their stay and realistic financing for the proposed business.

For a long-term visa, the official adult formula is 15 times the existential minimum for the first month, plus twice that minimum for every additional month. Using the current existential minimum of CZK 3,130, the indicative requirement is CZK 78,250 for six months and CZK 115,810 for twelve months. Different rules may apply to applicants under 18. The official CZK amount should always be checked immediately before filing.

Business or trade registration commonly needs to be arranged before the visa application because official evidence of the business purpose forms part of the file. Some activities require professional qualifications, permits or a responsible representative.

Although the national checklist may not always describe a business plan as a separate universal document, a well-supported commercial plan is highly valuable. It should explain the Czech market opportunity, business model, customers, competition, pricing, operations, premises, financing, forecasts and the applicant's active role.

The applicant normally files in person at the Czech embassy or consulate responsible for their citizenship or lawful residence. The application generally includes the form, passport, photographs, proof of business purpose, accommodation, financial resources and criminal-record documents. Czech translations, legalization or apostille may be required. After approval, compliant travel medical insurance is normally presented before the visa is issued.

The statutory processing period is generally 90 days and may be extended to 120 days where additional examination is needed. Appointment availability and document preparation can increase the overall timeline.

A business visa may be issued for up to one year. An applicant who continues the same business purpose and intends to remain beyond one year may generally apply inside Czechia for long-term residence before the current authorization expires. Family members use the appropriate family route and must satisfy their own document, accommodation, insurance and financial requirements. Permanent residence may become possible after five years of continuous lawful residence, subject to all statutory conditions.
